After updating the outside, it was time to take a look inside...
First let me say, I love walking into this building. High ceilings, original molded tin, polished wood floors. But even the most perfect space still needs a few updates here and there...
When we were first getting ready to transition into the space, there was still some furniture and such from the previous occupants. So, our very first step was working with our landlord to get all of that stuff moved out, so we could start thinking about what to move in:
Once all of that was out of there, I could officially move in. And this really meant: I could now clean everything, unencumbered by office furniture 😅
Cleaning gave me an up close and personal view that, while the inside was in pretty good shape, there were a few things that could stand to be updated.
The 2 items at the top of my to-do list were to paint a panel of insulation above the door and find a way to close the gate to the upside-down... I mean, er... fill in a sizeable crack in the corner.
(Disclaimer: the building is almost 100 years old, so settling and such is just part of its old-timey charm.)
Of course, once I start painting one area of the front wall, I started thinking "Why not just paint everything on this wall?"
I had Swiss Coffee to spare and felt very emboldened by my 3-step utility ladder, so I set to refreshing not only the insulation panel, but also all of the trim, the door, and beadboard panels.
Now, the whole front wall is totally refreshed and happy! (And, the gateway to the upside-down has been fully patched.)
I even had enough left over to repaint all of the baseboards!
Unfortunately, a new coat of white paint on top of an old coat of white paint does not translate well in photographs, but I am so excited to share this little update. It's really starting to feel like our store! 😊
