Store Update #4: Finishing Touches!

Updated: Oct 8, 2022

I am very tempted to make write a big, happy post that says "WE'RE OPEN," but I don't want to skip all of the final details that went into making that happen. So, I thought I would share some before-and-after photos of all the projects we took on during August, on the road to opening the doors!

Project #1: The yarn Wall

I have had a vision ever since we saw this building of a big, colorful yarn wall with yarn running from the front of the store all the way to the back! With the help of Mr. Handmade and a few Allen Wrenches, the vision came to life!

Project #2: Mid-Century Console Table Update

Words of Wisdom from Momma L (aka: my mom): If you see an Estate Sale, you should always go! This is how I ended up with a beautiful, hardwood console table for a very friendly price!

The table was in pretty good shape, but I wanted to give it a quick refresh. I gave it a very light sanding, which revealed a couple of spots (no biggie, right?). Then we broke out the White Lightning, which prompted more sandpaper, and the "quick refresh" went to a whole new level.

I had already been thinking about wood finishes, so we picked up some Dixie Belle Voodoo Gel Stain in Tobacco Road and got to work! The finished table is really just a subtle difference - it's a big darker now, but the Voodoo Gel Stain layered really well, so we were able to cover up the "trouble spots" and give it a smooth, uniform finish.

Project #3: Painting the bookcase

This furniture update went much quicker! I had found a bookcase at a local second-hand shop. It was solid wood at a great price, so one can't pass that up, right? I thought it might look nice in navy, but it was super lacquered. I sanded it and used de-glosser, to make sure the paint would stick. Then Momma L jumped in with the Bunker Hill Blue and voila! It looks like a whole new piece of furniture!

Project #4: The Notions Wall

For hanging notions, we decided to keep it simple. We started out with pegboard and built a frame around it. To help it *pop,* against the blue wall, I stained the frame in Temptress, another gel stain from Dixie Belle.

Project #5: Window Signs

This one I couldn't wait for! It is so exciting to see our business name bright and clear on the windows!

Thanks for reading about our pre-opening projects! If you're in the area, do come by and see the store in person! We are open Tuesday - Saturday.
